Lubuskie

We live in a village near Swieboczin and Lagow, in the beautiful Lake District of Lubuskie in Poland.

Swieboczin (Schwiebus) was until 1945 part of Brandenburg, Germany. The center of the city contains the remains of a walled settlement, including two towers and parts of the heavy defensive walls and bastions. The central square is dominated by the City Hall (1550), which was built in renaissance style and restored in the 19th century, with the addition of the prominent clock tower. In some places are still the original Gothic vaults. In the city hall is the Regional Museum.

The cities of Poznan and Zielona Gora are nearby and offer a wealth of shopping and culture.

In the summer of 2008 a giant statue of a crowned Jesus Christ was founded in Swieboczin. It is claimed that this monument is the largest in the world.

The construction was funded entirely by donations from the local population. The statue was completed in 2010 and the site has grown to pilgrimage.

In the close vicinity of it there are restaurants and hotels and it has put Swieboczin on the world map.

A short distance from our house, there is in the protected area, the picturesque village of Lagow, which is very popular with tourists from all over Europe.

Especially in the summer, Lagow is full of cultural events and sporting fun as folk, rock concerts and international motorcycle festivals take place. A meeting of 'bikers' from all over Europe and an annual film festival are some of them.

In the center stands a castle that was built in the 15th century by the Knights of St. John. It is now used as a luxury hotel. The courtyard of the castle serves as a concert stage with many internationally known musicians performing regularly.
